Whether you are a fresher preparing for campus placements or an experienced professional moving jobs, Indian recruiters read a lot of resumes quickly. This page covers what to include for jobs in India and how to build it with ResumeBuilder.ae. Editing is free; the PDF costs US$1.
Sections Indian recruiters look for
- Contact details: name, mobile number with +91, a professional email, your city and, if relevant, LinkedIn or GitHub.
- Summary or objective: two or three lines naming your degree or current role, your main skills and the role you want.
- Education: degree, college or university, year and CGPA or percentage. Freshers usually also list Class 12 and Class 10 with board and marks, because campus recruiters often ask for them.
- Internships and projects (most important for freshers), or work experience for experienced candidates, most recent first.
- Skills, certifications and achievements.
The job portal Naukri advises freshers to keep the resume to one page, use concise bullet points and avoid irrelevant personal information. (Naukri: fresher resume advice.)
Fresher or experienced: length
- Fresher: one page. Lead with education, then internships and projects.
- Experienced: one to two pages. Lead with your recent roles; shorten school results to a single line or remove them.
Notice period, current CTC and expected CTC
Indian employers and recruiters commonly ask for your notice period, current CTC (cost to company) and expected CTC. Your notice period can go on the resume; you can add it in the builder’s optional details. Salary figures are usually better given in the application form or when the recruiter asks, rather than printed on every copy of your resume.
What to leave out
Older Indian resume formats often had a long “personal details” block with father’s name, religion, marital status and a signed declaration. Most private-sector employers do not need these. Leave out religion, caste and similar details. Add date of birth or a declaration only if the employer or a government application specifically asks for it.
A fresher project entry (fictional example)
Final-year project: inventory app for a college canteen, B.Tech Computer Science, Example Institute of Technology, 2025
- Built the order and stock screens in Java with a MySQL database, in a team of three
- Tested the app with canteen staff for two weeks and fixed the issues they reported
- Presented the project to the department review panel
How to build it with this builder
- Choose A4 in the Design tab.
- Pick a template: Graduate Resume for freshers (education first) or ATS Professional for experienced candidates.
- Add education with CGPA or percentage exactly as on your marksheet.
- Add notice period in the optional details if you are working.
- Paste the job description into the checker, add only the keywords that are true for you, then download the PDF.
The PDF supports English with Latin letters. Hindi and other Indian scripts are not supported in the PDF yet, so write your resume in English.
Applying safely
- Genuine employers do not ask for money to give you an interview or a job offer. Be careful with any “registration fee” or “training deposit”.
- Check that offer emails come from the company’s own domain.
- The Government of India’s National Career Service portal lists jobs and job fairs alongside private portals.
Common questions
Should I write CGPA or percentage?
Use what your university reports. If an employer asks for percentage and you have CGPA, use your university’s official conversion, not your own estimate.
Do I need a declaration at the end?
Not for most private-sector jobs. Some government applications ask for one; follow their format.
Is a resume different from a biodata?
Yes. A biodata usually has more personal details and is used for some government or personal purposes. For company jobs, use a resume.
