Online application portals and common ATS platforms

Why do I have to re-type my work history when I already uploaded my resume?

Because many employers want your information in their own fields so they can search, filter and compare candidates consistently. The uploaded file is attached to your application, but the structured fields are what the system stores in a standard way.

How to make it faster:

  • Let the portal parse your resume first, then correct its suggestions rather than typing from scratch.
  • Keep a simple text file with each job's title, employer, location, start and end month and three or four bullets, ready to copy and paste.
  • Use the same wording as your resume so the two match.

It is tedious, but recruiters may rely on these fields. Skipping them or writing "see resume" can make your application look incomplete, and some forms will not let you submit without them.
