Dates, job titles and company names
How should I write my job titles so an ATS reads them correctly?
Write each title as a plain line of text, using your real title, in the same place in every entry. Systems usually look for a title, employer, location and dates grouped together, so a consistent pattern helps.
A clear pattern:
"Job Title
Company Name, City, Country | Mon YYYY – Mon YYYY"
or
"Job Title, Company Name, City | Mon YYYY – Present"
Tips:
- Spell titles out in full: "Senior Accountant", not "Sr. Acct."
- Do not add extra words to the title line, such as "Responsible for..."
- If your real title is unusual, add a short standard equivalent in brackets, for example "Guest Experience Ambassador (Front Desk Agent)".
Use your official title, the one your employer or experience letter would confirm. Show your target role in your headline and summary instead of changing past titles.
