Malaysia CV and resume guidance
What does a typical resume for a job in Malaysia include?
A typical Malaysian resume is one to two pages, written in English for most private-sector jobs, in reverse chronological order. Employers commonly look for clear contact details, work experience, education with results, languages and availability.
Common sections:
- Contact details: name, phone with +60, email, city and state.
- A short career summary or objective.
- Work experience with dates, employer, location and achievement bullets.
- Education: degree or diploma, institution, year and CGPA, plus SPM or STPM for fresh graduates.
- Skills, certifications and languages, often including Bahasa Malaysia, English and others such as Mandarin or Tamil.
- Notice period and, sometimes, referees.
A photo is still fairly common on Malaysian resumes, but it is optional. Older templates also listed IC number, age, race, religion and marital status; many applicants now leave these out because they are not needed to assess ability to do the job. Send a PDF unless the employer asks otherwise.
