Netherlands CV and resume guidance
I am applying to the Netherlands from abroad. What should my CV make clear?
Your current location, your availability, your language skills and, if true, your plans to relocate. Dutch recruiters need to judge quickly how practical your application is.
Example header line:
"Lisbon, Portugal | Relocating to the Netherlands from 09/2026 | +351 912 345 678"
Also include:
- Your Dutch level, even if basic, and your English level.
- Work authorisation only if you already have it. Do not imply a permit you do not hold; if you would need sponsorship, explain honestly when asked.
- Availability for video interviews.
Use the motivation letter to explain why you are moving and why this employer. If you have studied, worked or lived in the Netherlands or elsewhere in Europe before, mention it briefly, as it shows you know the working culture. Keep your CV on A4 and make sure any foreign employers and qualifications are described plainly enough for a Dutch reader to understand.
