Should I put a project inside a job entry or in a separate Projects section?

Put it inside the job if you did it as part of that job; use the Projects section for work done outside your jobs or for projects that need more detail. The goal is that a reader can see clearly where and when the work happened.

Inside the job entry, as a bullet:
"Led migration of 1,200 customer records to a new CRM, completed in 6 weeks."

In a Projects section:

  • University, personal or freelance projects.
  • Volunteer or open-source work.
  • A major work project you want to describe with several bullets, title and link.

Example Projects entry:
"Stock Forecasting Tool (personal project), 2025

  • Built a spreadsheet model to forecast weekly demand for a family shop.
  • Reduced over-ordering of perishable goods."

Avoid listing the same project in both places with the same wording. If it appears in both, make the job bullet short and the project entry detailed. Students and career changers often benefit most from a Projects section, because it shows relevant work that a job history cannot.
