Electrical Engineer resume
What should an electrical engineer resume summary say?
Say which part of electrical engineering you work in, the systems and voltage levels you handle, your main tools and standards, and one result. "Electrical engineer" covers very different jobs, so the summary must place you clearly.
Include:
- Specialism: power systems, building services (MEP) design, substations and protection, automation and controls, electronics, renewables, maintenance.
- Industry: utilities, oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, data centres.
- Tools and standards: ETAP, DIgSILENT, AutoCAD Electrical, Revit, DIALux, PLC platforms; IEC, IEEE, NEC or BS 7671.
- Registration or authorisations, listed as your regulator requires.
- One result: project delivered, downtime cut, energy saved.
Example (fictional): "Electrical design engineer with six years in MEP consultancy, designing power, lighting and low-current systems for hospitals and towers. Experienced in load calculations, cable sizing and DIALux lighting design to IEC standards."
Example (fictional): "Protection and substation engineer for a utility, commissioning 132 kV and 33 kV substations and setting numerical relays."
Avoid general lines such as "skilled electrical professional". Specialism, systems and results are what get you shortlisted.
