Nurse resume

Can you give example bullet points for a hospital staff nurse?

Yes. Good nursing bullets describe the setting, patient load, key responsibilities and a result such as safety, efficiency or patient experience. Use plain clinical terms and avoid patient details.

Examples (fictional, adapt to your role):

  • "Provided care for five to six patients per shift on a 32-bed medical ward, including medication administration, wound care and discharge planning."
  • "Led bedside handovers using SBAR, improving information sharing between shifts."
  • "Educated patients and families on diabetes self-care before discharge, using teach-back."
  • "Took part in a falls-prevention initiative that introduced hourly rounding on the ward."
  • "Precepted four newly qualified nurses through their orientation period."

Choose bullets that match the job advert's setting and specialty. A useful pattern is: action verb, what you did, for whom or where, and the outcome. For example, "Monitored" plus "post-operative patients" plus "on a 28-bed surgical unit" plus "escalating early warning scores to the medical team". Keep three to five bullets for each recent role and fewer for older ones, and never include anything that could identify a patient.
