What resume template suits a lawyer?
A traditional, conservative single-column template with a classic font, no colour beyond black or navy, and a precise, well-ordered structure suits lawyers.
Design priorities:
- Admissions and qualifications easy to find, near the top or with education.
- Practice areas named in the summary.
- Experience showing matter types, clients by sector and your role, without confidential details.
- Consistent formatting for every date and heading.
Law firms and legal departments value precision. A single typo or inconsistency can weaken an application, so proofread carefully. Avoid graphics, icons and unusual layouts.
Keep the length proportionate: one page for trainees and junior lawyers in many markets, two pages or more for experienced practitioners with substantial matters to describe. Use the same precision you would use in legal drafting.
