How to choose a resume template
Should I use a Word resume template or an online resume builder?
Either can work; choose the one that gives you a clean, readable final file with the least effort. Each has strengths.
Word processor templates:
- Give full control over every detail.
- Can break easily when you add lines, and many use tables or text boxes that some software reads poorly.
Online builders:
- Keep formatting consistent automatically and let you switch designs without retyping.
- Usually export a PDF and may offer fewer fine-tuning options.
ResumeBuilder.ae, for example, exports PDF only, not Word. If an employer specifically asks for a Word file, you can copy your text from the builder into a word processor and format it there. Check the application instructions before deciding.
A practical rule: if you mostly apply online and want something tidy quickly, a builder is usually easier. If you need a heavily customised layout or frequent Word files for agencies, a carefully chosen word processor template may suit you better.
