Printing and paper resumes

Do I still need a printed copy of my resume?

Yes, it is still worth having a few printed copies, even though most applications are online. Paper copies are useful in many situations:

  • Face-to-face interviews, where an interviewer may not have your resume to hand.
  • Job fairs, careers events and networking meetings.
  • Walk-in interviews and recruitment open days, which are common for some roles in the Gulf, India, the Philippines and elsewhere.
  • Handing your resume directly to a shop, restaurant or hotel manager.
  • Proofreading, because errors are often easier to spot on paper.

Keep the printed version identical to the one you sent online, unless you have deliberately made a version for in-person events. Print a fresh batch whenever you update the content, and recycle old copies so you never hand over an outdated resume by mistake.
