Awards, publications, memberships and other extra sections
Should I list professional memberships on my resume?
Yes, if they are relevant to your field and current. Memberships can show commitment to your profession and, for some bodies, that you meet a professional standard.
Most useful:
- Professional bodies in your field, such as engineering institutions, accounting bodies or HR associations.
- Memberships that require qualifications or experience to join.
- Roles you hold within the association.
Less useful:
- Memberships anyone can join by paying, with no activity.
- Groups unrelated to the job.
Write the full name of the body, your membership level and the year you joined. If your role or country requires registration with a regulator, list that registration as the regulator requires.
Example: "Member, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), since 2021." If the membership is central to the role, it can also appear in your summary or headline, for example as postnominal letters after your name, where the body allows them.
