Links, portfolios and online profiles
How should I prepare my GitHub profile before adding it to my resume?
Make it easy for a non-technical recruiter and a technical reviewer to see your best work within a minute.
Checklist:
- Profile photo or neutral avatar, your real name and a one-line bio such as "Backend developer, Python and Django".
- Pinned repositories that match the jobs you want.
- A clear README for each pinned project: what it does, technologies used, how to run it and a screenshot if useful.
- Clean commit messages on recent work.
- No secrets in code, such as passwords or API keys.
Then link either your profile or one standout project, depending on which is stronger. Check that all linked repositories are public.
Remember that recruiters may not be developers. A clear bio and plain-language READMEs help them understand your work, while the code itself shows technical reviewers how you write, test and document software.
