Resumes with no work experience
How do I write a resume when I have no work experience at all?
Build your resume around evidence of what you can do, taken from your studies, projects, volunteering and activities. Employers hiring for entry-level roles expect limited work history; they look for signs that you learn quickly, take responsibility and finish things.
A structure that works:
- Contact details and a short profile naming the role you want.
- Education, near the top, with relevant modules or achievements.
- Projects: academic, personal or group work, each with two or three bullets.
- Volunteering, clubs or informal responsibilities.
- Skills and languages, backed by examples elsewhere on the page.
Write every item the way you would describe a job: an action verb, what you did and a result. Example: "Designed and ran an online survey for a marketing class, collecting 140 responses and presenting the findings to the module leader." Stay honest. Your aim is to show real potential clearly, not to look more experienced than you are.
