ATS myths and misconceptions
Will an ATS automatically reject my resume because it has a photo?
There is no good basis for saying a photo triggers automatic rejection. The photo simply cannot be read as text, so it adds nothing for the software, and it can sometimes push text into odd positions in the layout.
Things that matter more:
- Local norms. In the UK, USA and Canada, photos are generally not expected, and many recruiters prefer resumes without them. In parts of the Gulf, Europe and Asia, photos are more common.
- Layout. If a photo sits inside a header or beside a column, the text around it may be read in an odd order.
If you are unsure, leave the photo off for online applications. ResumeBuilder.ae PDFs do not include photos, which keeps the text simple for applicant tracking systems.
