Tricky situations: promotions, contracts and multiple roles
How do I list freelance work for many different clients on my resume?
Use one freelance entry with an overall date range, then show your main clients or projects as bullets. This keeps the timeline clean and stops a list of many short "jobs".
Example:
"Freelance Graphic Designer, Self-employed, Cairo | Jan 2022 – Present
- Designed brand identities for 15 small businesses in hospitality and retail.
- Created social media campaigns for Nile Bites Café, raising engagement on their Instagram account.
- Produced packaging designs for an organic skincare start-up."
Tips:
- Use a clear title that matches the work you want: "Freelance Graphic Designer", not only "Freelancer".
- Name clients only if you have permission or the work is public.
- Choose the projects most relevant to the job you are applying for.
- Link to a portfolio if you have one.
In portals, enter freelance work as one job with "Self-employed" or your business name as the employer. This presents freelance work as a real, continuous role, which it is.
