Singapore CV and resume guidance
Do multinationals and local SMEs in Singapore expect different resumes?
The content is the same, but the emphasis can differ. Multinational companies often use online systems and look for structured, keyword-relevant resumes and regional experience. Local SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) may value versatility, hands-on skills and quick availability.
For multinationals:
- Clear headings and ATS-friendly layout.
- Regional scope, languages and stakeholder management.
For SMEs:
- Breadth of responsibilities and practical problem-solving.
- Availability and notice period.
Tailor your summary and top bullets for each type rather than writing two completely different resumes.
Example summary for an SME:
"Operations executive with 5 years in a 40-person distribution company, handling purchasing, inventory and customer orders; comfortable switching between tasks and starting at short notice."
Example summary for a multinational:
"Operations executive with 5 years in distribution, experienced in SAP inventory processes and coordinating with suppliers across 3 ASEAN countries."
