Cover letters for special situations

How do I write a cover letter for an internship?

Focus on what you want to learn, what you can already contribute and why this organisation. Internship readers expect students or recent graduates, so they look for curiosity, reliability and evidence of relevant interest.

Include:

  • Your course, year and expected graduation.
  • Two examples: a project, assignment, club role or part-time job that shows relevant skills.
  • One specific reason for choosing this organisation.
  • Dates you are available and whether the internship is for academic credit.

Example: "I am a third-year civil engineering student at a university in Dubai, available from June to August. In my structural design module, my team designed a pedestrian bridge model that placed second in the faculty competition."

Keep it to one page and avoid generic praise like "your prestigious company".
