Text I pasted from Word shows strange characters. How do I fix it?

Delete the odd characters and retype them, or paste the text as plain text. Word processors use special characters, such as curly quotes, special dashes, non-breaking spaces and their own bullet symbols, that can look wrong after pasting.

Common problems and fixes:

  • Extra bullet symbols at the start of lines: delete them; the builder adds its own.
  • Boxes, question marks or strange symbols: retype that character, such as an apostrophe or dash.
  • Odd spacing: delete and retype the spaces.
  • Text in one long line: split it into separate bullets.

To paste as plain text, many browsers and systems offer a "paste as plain text" or "paste without formatting" option. You can also paste into a plain text editor first, then copy from there into the builder.

On ResumeBuilder.ae the checklist before payment warns about characters the PDF cannot print, which helps you catch anything you missed. It warns but never blocks, so check the preview yourself as well.
