A "recruiter" is asking for my passport copy and bank details before an interview. Is that normal?
No. Be very cautious. Genuine employers rarely ask for passport copies, bank details or payments before you have had an interview and an offer. Requests like this are a common sign of job scams.
Warning signs:
- A job offer without an interview.
- Requests for fees for visas, training, processing or equipment.
- Requests for bank details, card numbers or one-time passwords.
- Communication only through messaging apps, with no company email or website.
- Pressure to act quickly.
What to do:
- Do not send documents or money.
- Check the company independently: official website, phone number, physical address.
- Ask for the offer in writing from a company email address.
- Report suspicious messages to the platform where you were contacted.
When a genuine employer needs passport or bank details, it is normally for formal steps such as visa processing or payroll after an offer, through a clear and secure process.
