Interior Designer resume

How do I write an entry-level interior designer resume with no studio experience?

Lead with your education, design projects and software skills, then add internships, freelance work or related jobs. As a graduate, your studio projects and portfolio are your experience, so treat them like jobs with bullets.

Suggested order:

  • Summary naming your degree and the type of design you want to do.
  • Education with your final project and any awards.
  • Projects: two or three academic or personal projects with brief, tools and outcome.
  • Internships or freelance work, even short ones.
  • Skills: software, sketching, materials knowledge, model-making.

Example project bullet (fictional): "Final-year project: redesigned a 300 m² public library interior, producing space plans, material boards and SketchUp walkthroughs."

Retail jobs in furniture or home stores are worth listing too, with bullets on helping customers choose finishes or layouts. Keep it to one page.
