What resume template is best for a software engineer?
A clean single-column template with a prominent technical skills section, clear experience bullets and room for selected projects works best for software engineers.
Design priorities:
- Contact line with links to your code profile or portfolio.
- Skills grouped by type: languages, frameworks, cloud and tools.
- Experience bullets showing what you built and its effect, for example: "Rebuilt the checkout API, cutting average response time from 800 ms to 250 ms."
- A Projects section for open-source or significant personal work.
Most tech companies care far more about substance than design. A simple, well-structured layout that reads cleanly in any system is the professional norm in this field.
Keep the page to one or two pages depending on experience, and use the same tense and format in every bullet. If you contribute to open source or have shipped a well-known product, mention it in your summary so it is seen first rather than buried in a link.
