Resume Writing and Summaries
Objective statements – Page 3
Should my objective say I am "willing to learn"?
Not on its own. Every employer expects new hires to learn, so this phrase does not add information. Show your learning ability instead.
Replace "willing to learn" with evidence:
- "Completed an online Excel course and used it to build a stock tracker for a family shop."
- "Taught myself Figma to design my final-year project app."
If you want to express openness to training, link it to the role: "keen to train in the company's SAP processes" shows you have read the advert and know what you need to learn.
What objective should I write for a junior design or creative role?
Name the creative role, mention your strongest portfolio work and the tools you use.
Examples:
- "Graphic design graduate seeking a junior designer role in an advertising agency. Portfolio includes branding for three small businesses and a social media campaign for a student festival."
- "Self-taught video editor seeking an assistant editor role. Edited 30 short videos for a local YouTube channel in Premiere Pro."
Point to your portfolio link in your contact details. In creative roles, your work samples matter as much as your resume text.
