Professional summaries

How do I tailor my professional summary for each job?

Keep a strong base summary, then adjust the job title, the two or three highlighted strengths and the keywords for each application. It usually takes only a few minutes.

Steps:

  • Read the job advert and note the job title and the skills or duties mentioned most often.
  • Match the first line to the advert's title if it honestly describes you.
  • Swap your highlighted strengths so they reflect what this employer needs most.
  • Choose the result or example that is closest to their work.

Example base: "Logistics coordinator with 5 years in freight forwarding."
For a customs-focused role: "...specialising in customs documentation and clearance for sea and air freight."
For a warehouse-focused role: "...with hands-on experience in inbound scheduling and stock control."

Do not add skills you do not have. Tailoring means choosing what to emphasise, not inventing.
