Part-time and casual jobs

What can I write about a café or restaurant job on a graduate resume?

Write about speed, teamwork, customer care and responsibility, because those are what hospitality work proves best.

Useful angles for café, restaurant or fast-food jobs:

  • Serving many customers quickly and accurately at peak times.
  • Taking orders, handling payments and dealing with special requests.
  • Following food safety and hygiene procedures.
  • Working closely with kitchen staff and covering different stations.
  • Opening or closing the premises, or supervising a shift.

Example: "Took orders and served tables across a 12-table section during busy evening shifts, working closely with the kitchen to keep service on time."

If you hold a food hygiene certificate from the job, list it under Certifications as well. Keep the bullets short and avoid restaurant jargon such as "FOH" unless you explain it.
