How to practise effectively

  1. Practise little and often. Ten to twenty focused minutes a day build habits faster than one long session a week.
  2. Put accuracy first. Slow down until most keys are right first time. Speed follows accuracy.
  3. Target your weak keys. After enough practice, this page shows the keys and letter pairs you miss most often, using your saved results, and builds drills around them.
  4. Test yourself regularly. Take a typing speed test once or twice a week and watch your progress chart.
  5. Fade the hints. Once you know a key, hide the keyboard or the hands in the settings and trust your fingers.

Common typing mistakes and how to fix them

  • Looking at the keyboard. Rest your index fingers on the F and J bumps and look at the screen. Use the next-key guide instead of your eyes.
  • Using the wrong finger. Each key belongs to one finger. Follow the highlighted finger, even when another feels quicker; it pays off later.
  • Not returning to the home row. After every reach, your finger goes back to its home key. That is what keeps your hands in the right place.
  • Rushing. Speed bursts followed by mistakes are slower than an even rhythm. Aim for a steady beat.
  • Shift with the same hand. Use the Shift key on the opposite side to the letter, so the typing hand stays on its home row.
  • Ignoring small errors. Notice which keys you miss: the results list them after every test.

How to improve your typing speed

Keep your eyes a word or two ahead of where you are typing, so your fingers always know what comes next. Learn common words and letter groups such as the, ing and tion as single movements. Practise the punctuation and numbers you use at work. When your accuracy stays above 95%, push your speed a little; when it drops, slow down again.

How your progress is saved

If “Save my progress” is on in the settings, this page keeps your recent results, personal bests, lesson progress, achievements and the days you practised, plus a count of how often each key was typed and mistyped. Everything is stored in this browser only: nothing is sent to our server, and the text you type is never stored. Weak-key suggestions appear only after enough typing (about 300 characters in saved results), so they are based on real observations. You can turn off personalised recommendations or delete all saved progress at any time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the daily challenge?

A one-minute test with everyday sentences. Everyone gets the same text on the same day. Complete it with at least 90% accuracy to mark the day as done.

How is the practice streak counted?

A day counts when you finish a saved test, lesson or practice on that day in this browser. The streak is the number of days in a row up to today or yesterday.

Why is “Your weak keys” not available?

There is not enough data yet, or no key stands out. The tool needs about 300 typed characters in saved results before it suggests anything, so that suggestions are not based on a single slip.

Can I move my progress to another device?

No. Progress stays in the browser where you practise. This keeps your data private and means no account is needed.
