Online application portals and common ATS platforms

How can I tell if a job application portal is fake?

Look for warning signs that the site is not run by the real employer. Fake portals and recruitment scams often copy company names and logos.

Warning signs:

  • The link came from an unexpected message, not the company's own website.
  • The web address is slightly different from the company's official domain.
  • You are asked to pay for applications, training, visas or "processing".
  • Bank or card details are requested early.
  • An offer arrives without a proper interview.

To be safe, go to the employer's official website yourself and find the careers page from there.

If you think you have found a fake portal or already shared details, stop responding, do not send money or documents, and change any passwords you reused. Report the advert to the job board where you found it, and consider contacting the real company through its official website so it can warn other applicants. Genuine employers do not mind you checking that a job is real before you apply.
