Online application portals and common ATS platforms

The portal filled in my profile from my resume, but lots of fields are wrong. What should I do?

Correct every field by hand before you submit. Auto-fill is a convenience, not a guarantee, and recruiters may see the profile fields rather than your attached resume first. Mistakes left in place can make you look careless or less qualified.

Common problems to look for:

  • Your name split wrongly between first and last name.
  • Job titles placed in the employer field, or the reverse.
  • Two jobs merged into one, or one job split into two.
  • Wrong or missing dates, especially for your current role.
  • Bullet points squashed into a single paragraph.
  • Education with the wrong degree level or institution.

Fix each entry carefully, copying from your resume where possible to keep wording consistent. If many fields are wrong, it is a hint that your resume layout is hard to read. Consider a simpler single-column version for future applications, with your contact details in the body, standard headings and dates on the same line as each job.
