Keywords from job descriptions

How do career changers find and use keywords from a new field?

Study postings in your new field, then translate your existing experience into their terms wherever it honestly applies. Many skills transfer; they just have different names.

Steps:

  • Collect several postings for the role you want and list the repeated terms.
  • Match each term to something you have actually done.
  • Rewrite those bullets using the new field's language.

Example, teacher moving into corporate training:

  • Old: "Planned lessons for Year 9 classes."
  • New: "Designed and delivered training sessions for groups of 30, including needs assessment and progress evaluation."

Leave out terms you cannot back up. Address true gaps with a course, a project or volunteering, and list that honestly.

Put the new field's job title in your headline only if you are genuinely ready for that level, for example "Aspiring Learning and Development Specialist" or simply your strongest transferable title. A short summary that links your past work to the new field helps recruiters understand why your keywords come from a different setting.
