Career change resume basics

What does a complete career-change resume outline look like?

A common outline is: summary, relevant evidence, work history, education, then extras. Here is an example for a sales coordinator moving into digital marketing.

  1. Header: name, city, phone, email, portfolio link.
  2. Summary: "Sales coordinator with five years of client communication and campaign support, moving into digital marketing. Completed a digital marketing certificate in 2026 and manage social media for a local charity."
  3. Key skills: Meta Ads, Google Analytics, content calendars, copywriting, Excel reporting.
  4. Projects: "Charity social media relaunch (volunteer, 2026): planned and posted content three times a week; page followers grew steadily over six months."
  5. Work experience: "Sales Coordinator, Example Trading, 2021 to present", with bullets on campaign support and reporting first.
  6. Earlier roles: one-line entries.
  7. Training and education: certificate first, then degree.

Adjust the order to put your strongest evidence first. If you have a relevant part-time job, it may replace Projects in position four.
