Experienced and older job seekers

How can I show that my skills are current after many years in work?

Put your most recent, relevant evidence near the top: recent tools, recent training and recent results. Employers worry less about how long you have worked and more about whether you can do today's version of the job.

Ways to show it:

  • Name the current software, systems or methods you use in your latest role, using the same terms as the job advert.
  • Add a short "Recent Training" or "Professional Development" section with courses from the last few years.
  • Write bullets about recent changes you led or adopted. Example: "Moved team reporting from spreadsheets to a shared dashboard in Power BI, 2025."
  • Remove tools that nobody uses any more unless the job asks for them.
  • Keep the summary focused on what you do now, not on how many decades you have worked.

Recent, concrete examples answer the "is this person up to date?" question better than any adjective.
