Choosing and organising resume sections
Which sections should an academic CV include?
An academic CV is usually longer than a standard resume and uses more sections, ordered to show your research and teaching record. ResumeBuilder.ae has several sections designed for this.
A typical structure:
- Contact details and a professional title, such as "Postdoctoral Researcher, Marine Biology".
- Education: degrees, with thesis titles and supervisors if relevant.
- Academic Experience: teaching, lecturing, demonstrating and academic posts.
- Research: projects, methods and funding.
- Publications: in a consistent citation style.
- Awards: grants, fellowships and scholarships.
- Professional Memberships.
- Custom sections such as "Conference Presentations" or "Supervision".
- References, often expected for academic posts.
Order sections by what the position values most. A research-focused post may put Research and Publications right after Education; a teaching post may lead with Academic Experience.
Unlike industry resumes, academic CVs can run to several pages. Still, keep each entry concise and consistent.
