Senior Manager / Executive resume
What should a general manager resume include that a department head resume does not?
A general manager resume should show ownership of the whole operation: revenue, costs, people, customers, compliance and strategy together. A department head resume usually shows depth in one function; a GM resume shows how you balanced all of them.
Include:
- Scope line for each GM role. Example (fictional): "General Manager, 280-room city hotel, 310 staff, all departments reporting."
- Commercial results such as revenue growth, margin and market share, described in words if numbers are confidential.
- Cross-functional decisions. Example (fictional): "Reallocated the marketing budget toward corporate sales, filling midweek occupancy gaps and lifting annual revenue by a fifth."
- People and culture: leadership team built, engagement improved, successors developed.
- Owner, board or head-office relationships.
Keep functional detail short. If you were previously a department head, one line about that background is enough, followed by evidence that you now lead the full business. Readers want confidence that you will not manage everything from the angle of your old department, so show decisions that cut across finance, sales, operations and people.
