Personal details on a resume
Should I put my date of birth or age on my resume?
In most countries, no. Your age is not needed to judge whether you can do the job, and leaving it off reduces the risk of age bias.
Country guidance:
- UK: official careers advice says to leave out age and date of birth.
- Canada: the government's Job Bank advises leaving out age.
- US: hiring decisions must not be based on age for people 40 and over, and information that reveals age is irrelevant to whether you are qualified.
- Some countries and employers, including parts of the Gulf and South Asia, still commonly see date of birth on CVs, but it is increasingly optional.
If an application form asks for your date of birth, complete it there. On the resume itself, you can leave it out. ResumeBuilder.ae has no date-of-birth field for this reason.
