Personal details on a resume
Should I put my nationality on my resume?
It depends on the country. In the UK and many Western countries, leave it out; in the Gulf, many candidates include it because it relates to visa and work permit questions.
Guidance by region:
- UK: official careers advice suggests leaving out nationality. Your right to work is checked separately by the employer.
- US, Canada, Australia: nationality is not usually included; show work authorisation if relevant.
- UAE and GCC: nationality is commonly included, and it can help employers understand visa needs, but it remains your choice.
If what employers really need is whether you can work there, a line like "Eligible to work in the UK" or "UAE residence visa, transferable" is often more useful than nationality.
Whichever you choose, keep it consistent across your resume and application forms.
