Tables, graphics, icons and images
Are icons for phone, email and location safe in my contact details?
Small icons are not the biggest risk, but they can cause problems, and the safest choice is plain text labels or none at all. Some systems may read the icon as a strange character, skip the line, or fail to recognise your email or phone number if the icon is joined to it.
Common issues:
- Icons from icon fonts can turn into random letters or boxes when text is extracted.
- An icon placed in a separate column or text box can separate it from the detail it labels.
- If the contact line is built as a graphic, the details may be lost entirely.
Safer contact line:
"Dubai, UAE | +971 50 000 0000 | name.surname@email.com | linkedin.com/in/name-surname"
Your phone number and email are recognisable without labels. If you want labels, short words such as "Phone:" and "Email:" work everywhere. Test any template with icons by copying the text from the PDF into a plain editor and checking that your details appear correctly.
