File names and file size

My resume downloaded with a strange name. Should I rename it before sending?

Yes. Downloaded files often get automatic names, such as "resume (1).pdf", "download.pdf" or a name with random numbers. Rename it to something clear before attaching or uploading.

How to rename:

  • Windows: right-click the file, choose Rename, type the new name, keep ".pdf" at the end.
  • Mac: click the file name once, wait, then type, or right-click and choose Rename.
  • Phone: in the Files app, press and hold the file and choose Rename.

Example: change "resume (2).pdf" to "Joseph-Mwangi-CV.pdf". Renaming does not change the content or damage the PDF.

Two cautions while renaming. Keep the ".pdf" ending exactly as it is, because removing it makes the file look unrecognised. And if your computer hides extensions, do not type ".pdf" yourself, or you will end up with "Joseph-Mwangi-CV.pdf.pdf". After renaming, open the file once to confirm it is the latest version, then delete older copies so you cannot attach the wrong one.
