How do I write a graduate mechanical engineer resume?
Lead with your degree, then show hands-on projects, internships and software skills with real results. Graduate employers look for engineering thinking and evidence that you can build, test and learn.
What to include:
- Education: degree, university, year, final project title and any honours.
- Projects: Formula Student, robotics, capstone design, research.
- Internships or industrial training with specific tasks.
- Skills: CAD, FEA, MATLAB, workshop skills.
Example (fictional): "Designed and machined the suspension uprights for a Formula Student car, reducing weight while passing scrutineering."
Example (fictional): "Built a solar-powered water pump prototype for the final-year project, testing flow rates at three heads."
Example (fictional): "Intern, packaging plant: updated 40 maintenance drawings in AutoCAD and helped with a conveyor changeover."
Keep it to one page and link to a portfolio of CAD work if you have one.
