Should I add LinkedIn and other links to my resume when applying abroad?

Yes, a LinkedIn profile link is useful in most countries, because recruiters abroad often check it to learn more about unfamiliar backgrounds. Add other links only if they show relevant work, such as GitHub or a portfolio.

Before you add the link:

  • Make sure your profile matches your resume: same titles, dates and degrees.
  • Set your profile location to where you live now or where you are applying.
  • Write your headline and summary in the language of the jobs you want.
  • Use a custom profile URL rather than one with random numbers.

Keep links short and test them in the final PDF. If a profile is mostly empty or in another language, it may be better to leave it off until it is ready.
